Our Approach to Dry Eye Treatment

Dry eye is an uncomfortable, chronic condition, so we aim to balance immediate relief with long-term results.

Quick Comfort: Our first priority is to reduce your discomfort as soon as possible, so you can get back to doing the things you love.

Sustainable Solutions: Beyond immediate relief, we aim to find treatment options that fit seamlessly into your lifestyle and keep you feeling good over time.

By addressing your dry eye symptoms today, we can help prevent progression and avoid more severe complications down the road.

Personalized Care Starts with Thorough Diagnostic Technology

Your experience with dry eye is unique, so we tailor our treatments to your specific needs.

Your dry eye consultation begins with a questionnaire to better understand your symptoms, then an in-depth evaluation using the OCULUS Keratograph, a device that allows us to analyze the key factors contributing to your dry eye.

This powerful technology takes photos of your meibomian glands (tiny, oil-secreting glands that line your eyelids), assesses the chemical composition of your tears, and identifies any early surface damage caused by dryness.

Together, we’ll examine the results, helping you clearly see what’s happening with your eyes. From there, we’ll discuss all your available options and develop a plan to address the root causes of your symptoms. We want you to feel confident about your eye care every step of the way.

What Is Dry Eye Disease?

In simple terms, dry eye disease occurs when your eyes don’t produce enough tears, or the tears they make aren’t effectively keeping the surface of your eyes healthy. Without a stable tear film, your eyes are more vulnerable to discomfort and damage.

A common cause of dry eye is meibomian gland dysfunction (also called MGD). The meibomian glands help prevent tears from evaporating too quickly. When these glands are blocked or not working, the result can be chronic dryness, irritation, and inflammation.

It’s important to know that dry eye is a chronic condition. While there’s no permanent cure, with the right plan, we can effectively manage it, helping you feel more comfortable now while protecting your eye health for the future.

How We Help Relieve Your Dry Eye Symptoms

We offer a comprehensive range of dry eye treatments, selected to fit your particular symptoms and needs. Your customized dry eye treatment plan may include one or more of the following options:

  • IPL (Intense Pulsed Light):  IPL therapy targets inflammation and stimulates natural healing, promoting better tear production and eye health. Learn more.
  • RF (Radiofrequency): RF treatment helps improve gland health by stimulating blood flow and reducing inflammation, which in turn can enhance tear stability and your eyes’ comfort. Learn more.
  • Eye Drops & Sprays: Over-the-counter lubricating drops or sprays can ease dryness throughout the day. Medicated drops may be prescribed in some cases.
  • Eye Masks: A soothing eye mask uses heat therapy to improve meibomian gland function and refresh irritated eyes.
  • Demodex Treatment: We can prescribe medicine to address Demodex mites, which irritate the eyelids in many cases of dry eye caused by blepharitis.
  • Omega-3 Supplements: Specially formulated supplements aim to enhance your tear quality, alleviate dryness, and promote better eye health.
  • Punctal Plugs: When warranted, we can insert this small device into your ducts to slow the drainage of your tears.
  • Meibomian Gland Expression: This procedure aims to clear meibomian gland blockages and restore oil flow.
