Protecting Your Sight Starts with Early Detection
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is one of the leading causes of vision loss for adults over 50. The good news is that the earlier we catch it, the more we can do to protect your sight.
At Chili Vision Group, we use modern imaging tools to spot signs of AMD as early as possible. If you have a family history of AMD or other eye diseases or if you have diabetes, staying up to date with comprehensive eye exams is an essential step to protect your vision.
AMD doesn’t cause pain, and the early stages often go unnoticed. Our detailed approach to testing helps us catch small changes before they affect your daily life.
Let’s manage AMD together—contact us to schedule your next eye exam today.

What Is Age-Related Macular Degeneration?
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) affects the macula (the part of your eye responsible for central vision). It typically doesn’t cause complete blindness, but it can make everyday things like reading, driving, and recognizing faces much more difficult.
There are 2 main types:
- Dry AMD is the more common form and progresses slowly. It causes gradual thinning of the macula over time.
- Wet AMD is less common but more serious. It involves leaking blood vessels under the retina (back of the eye) and can lead to rapid vision loss.

Who Is At Risk of AMD?
Even if you’re not experiencing symptoms, regular eye exams can catch AMD early, before you notice any vision changes. You’re at higher risk of developing AMD if you:
- Are over 50
- Are overweight
- Have a family history of AMD
- Smoke or have smoked in the past
- Don’t eat enough leafy greens and antioxidants
- Eat too much saturated fat (like meat, butter, and cheese)
- Have diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, or hypertension (high blood pressure)
AMD often starts quietly, but our thorough testing can catch changes early, giving you more options to protect your vision for the long haul.
What Happens if We Detect AMD?
If we see signs of age-related macular degeneration during your exam, we’ll take the time to walk you through what that means, what to expect, and how we’ll manage it together. Depending on what we find, we may recommend:
- Quitting smoking
- Blue light protection
- UVA and UVB protection
- Nutritional supplements shown to slow AMD progression
- Lifestyle changes like adjusting your diet and exercising more
- More frequent monitoring with OCT and fundus photography
We’ll help you navigate AMD and answer all your questions clearly and compassionately.
How Our Technology Supports AMD Detection
We believe in being proactive when it comes to your eye health. During your comprehensive eye exam, we’ll use modern imaging tools to help us see deeper into your eyes.
Our technology allows us to detect AMD as early as possible and take the right next steps with you. If you have any questions about AMD and your management options, please feel free to ask our team—we’re always happy to help.
AdaptDx Pro is a headset that measures how well your eyes adjust from light to dark, a key function often impaired early in AMD. The test is simple, quick, and noninvasive.
If your dark adaptation is slower than normal, it could be an early warning sign of AMD, often detectable before any structural changes appear in imaging. Early detection through this test allows us to take proactive steps in managing AMD, helping preserve your vision for the long term.
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) lets us view cross-sections of your retina. These images help us spot early signs of macular thinning or swelling that may indicate AMD, even before symptoms start.
With OCT, we can monitor changes over time and track the progression of AMD with greater accuracy, so any necessary treatments can be started as early as possible to protect your vision.
Fundus photography creates a high-resolution image of your retina so that we can monitor changes over time and catch AMD progression early. By capturing these images, we can detect subtle shifts that may indicate the early stages of AMD, even before you notice any changes in your vision.
Keeping an Eye on the Future
Eye disease like macular degeneration can be silent, but your care doesn’t have to be. We make space for the conversations and testing that matter, so you feel confident about your vision today and tomorrow.
